Celebrating Five Years of Movie Vault

“There’s no place like home.” Dorothy may have said it in The Wizard of Oz, but for David and Emily, home turned out to be somewhere they never expected. Five years ago, that place became Lanzarote.

On 4th August 2026, Movie Vault celebrates five fantastic years in Playa Blanca, marking half a decade of bringing movies, music and pop culture to residents and visitors alike. Looking back, it almost feels like the script to a feel-good film.

David has always been a movie fanatic. As a teenager he worked in a video rental shop before going on to manage one of Warner Brothers’ stores in the UK. When redundancy unexpectedly called “Cut!”, he refused to let the credits roll. Instead, he and Emily opened their own Movie Vault in Yeovil, sharing their passion with fellow film fans for many successful years.

The plan had always been to relocate to a bigger premises in the UK. Then came a holiday to Lanzarote in January 2020.

One visit was all it took.

Like so many before them, they fell head over heels for the island. Of course, every great story needs a challenge, and the pandemic soon brought months of uncertainty for businesses everywhere. But rather than abandon their dream, David and Emily packed up their lives, squeezed as much stock as possible into a shipping container, and headed for a brand-new adventure.

The next chapter required patience. Their entire shop was sitting in boxes while they waited months for paperwork before finally collecting the keys to the shop. Then, on 4th August 2021, Movie Vault officially opened its doors.

Five years later, the shop has become a must visit destination for movie lovers, music fans and collectors of all ages. Shelves are packed with official merchandise, unique collectibles, music T-shirts imported from Liverpool, and plenty of affordable treasures, with most items costing under €10. As David proudly points out, “We’re even cheaper than HMV!”

Their philosophy has never changed. Work hard, keep prices fair, stock products customers haven’t seen before, and enjoy meeting fellow fans from around the world. Whether you’re searching for a superhero collectible, a nostalgic movie souvenir or the perfect pocket-money gift, Movie Vault has something waiting.

The story has continued beyond the shop too. David and Emily married in Lanzarote in November 2024 before completing another milestone a year later by moving into their permanent home on the island.

Looking back over the last five years, one famous line feels especially appropriate: “May the Force be with you.” It certainly seems to have been.
