Carnival is hotting up in Arrecife, with several events scheduled for the weekend before the main parade on Monday evening.
Tomorrow will see batucadas and comparsas (drum and dance groups) parade from the Gran Hotel to the Parque José Ramírez Cerda at midday. The Carnival Porteño will then take place – basically a big disco with live bands – until midnight.
There’ll also be live bands and DJs in the Recova (old, covered marketplace behind the Ayuntamiento) from 12 noon to 2am, and the Plaza El Almacénan C/ la Porra will also host bands and DJs from 1pm until 3am.
From 7 pm to 1 am there’ll be a youth carnival at Agramar in Puerto Naos; and other dances will take place at the Puente de las Bolas from 11pm to 4 am.
Sunday will see a dog costume competition at 12 midday, and a Gala for the Elderly will take place at 6pm, both at Agramar.
The main parade will take place on Monday at 6pm, leaving from the Football Ground and heading towards Agramar.
Tuesday 13th, Carnival Tuesday, will be a public holiday in Arrecife, Tías, Tinajo, San Bartolomé and Haría. It will be a normal working day in Teguise and Yaiza.
