80% of British tourists to the Canaries are repeat visitors and over a quarter (26%) have spent ten or more holidays on the islands, according to the Canarian Tourist Minister Jéssica de León.
De León made the claim at a parliamentary committee to stress the importance of the World Travel Market (WTM), the travel fair that will take place in London next week. She claimed that the presence of Canarian delegates at the WTM would increase the competitiveness of the Canaries among the British market.
The minister also claimed that currently, as the winter season commences, seven out of ten British visitors to Spain had chosen the Canary Islands as their destination.
Each British visitor stays for an average of eight days and spends an average of €1,472, approximately €191 per day, representing an estimated revenue of €8 billion, claimed De León, who also reported that the average satisfaction level among UK tourists was 9/10, with 42% finding the experience better than they had expected.
The minister announced that the Canaries would promote sports, nature tourism and other outdoor activities, given that 24% of British tourists look for such activities on holiday.
