Canarian President says there is no “magic wand” for current tourism model

Canarian President Fernando Clavijo has said there is no “magic wand” to change the model of tourism in the Canaries for the better overnight.

Clavijo was responding to another demonstration in Tenerife last weekend, when 300 people gathered in front of a hotel where a German tour operator was meeting.

Clavijo claimed that “the Government, Cabildos, Ayuntamientos and social and economic groups are working together on improvements.”

Canaria Palante, a group of organisations that support the demonstrations have accused Clavijo of being “insensitive”, and say his proposal is “a farce that is intended to legitimise the government’s tourist plan, which is the same old plan that is leading us to collapse.”
