The Canarian Government has pledged to keep free buses for regular users and will subsidise a renewal plan aimed at getting older, more polluting cars off the road.
Mobility Minister Pablo Rodríguez announced the measures at a conference yesterday, commenting that the aim of his department was not just to encourage the purchase of electric vehicles, but to also to retire vehicles from the road. The average age of a vehicle on the Canaries is 14 years.
Free bus travel using a special pass for Canarian residents was introduced following the increase in fuel prices.
