Union Sur Yaiza remain buoyant despite their first home defeat of the season.

On Sunday 10th November, Unión Sur Yaiza suffered their first home defeat of the season, losing 2-3 to CP Cacereño, from Caçeres in the south-western Spanish province of Extremadura. Yaiza took the lead twice with goals from Moha and Fabricio, but during several minutes of confusion in the second half, the Extremadurans turned the result around to bag the three points that were at stake.

The match began with Unión Sur Yaiza dominating and that was how Maxi Barrera’s side took the lead in the 17th minute. Following a corner from Fabricio, Moha controlled the ball inside the area, steadied it and put the ball into the top corner with his left foot.

But it only took five minutes for Cacereño to level the score, following an unfortunate play for the Yaiza defence. Viñuela went down the right, tried to pass to Álvaro Salinas and Víctor López, attempting to clear the ball, ended up putting it into his own goal.

The first half ended with another goal for Yaiza. Ismael Traoré, who had been brought on for teammate Pablo Bolado, went down the left, reached the touchline, and passed back for Fabricio to finish into the back of the net. The score was 2-1 at half-time at the Municipal de Yaiza.

Unión Sur Yaiza had chances to extend their lead in the first minutes of the second half, with attacks by Ismael Traoré and Marco Siverio. But when it seemed they were closest to getting a third, Cacereño’s equaliser came. Nauzet Pérez lost the ball under pressure from Chris, and the player from Extremadura shot into an empty net to equalise.

Shortly afterwards, Cacereño won a penalty, but Álvaro Salinas’ shot was saved by Nauzet Pérez, making up for his earlier error. Then, in unfortunate play for Aitor Molina in which he was seriously injured, Cacereño played on and Chris scored the third for the visitors to turn the result around.

Yaiza pressured their rivals in the final minutes of the match, and had their chances to equalise. A cross from the left was met by Marco Siverio’s header, but the ball hit the woodwork. Then, six minutes into added time, Jordan had a goal disallowed for offside when he shot into the net from inside the area.

It’s the first home defeat for Yaiza this season, and a reality check after an unbeaten streak of six games. But despite the defeat, the Southerners remain in the top half of the Second Federation.

Yaiza have a busy travel diary in December, starting with a trip to Real Madrid C, and also heading to San Sebastian in Madrid and Cuenca. Their only match at home this month sees Rayo Majadahonda challenge Yaiza beneath the volcano.
