Lanzarote Cabildo stresses preventative measures to protect workers during the hottest months of the year.

Cabildo President, Oswaldo Betancort, stressed the importance of “ensuring the health and welfare of our workers during the hottest months”, urging them to follow the guidelines set by prevention technicians.

Among the main recommendations are constant hydration. It is advisable to always have fresh water available and to drink small amounts every 15 to 20 minutes, even if you are not thirsty. As for the organisation of work, the Cabildo recommends that the most demanding tasks should be carried out early in the morning or late in the afternoon, avoiding the central part of the day when the heat is more intense. In addition, in the event of an orange alert for high temperatures, it is recommended to stop activities in the sun.

Regarding personal protection, it is essential to wear a cap or hat, sunglasses and breathable clothing. Likewise, breaks should be scheduled in cool or shady places, in order to avoid overheating of the body. On the other hand, workers should be especially alert to signs of heat stroke such as headaches, excessive fatigue or muscle cramps.

The Cabildo’s Human Resources councillor, Miguel Ángel Jiménez, stressed that these recommendations are not only a matter of regulatory compliance, but of respect and care for those who every day provide service to the public, often in adverse conditions.
