Lanzarote’s Cabildo has purchased the old post office building on Arrecife’s seafront and the Casa Cabreron for a total of 3.2 million Euros.
The Correos building was closed in 2017 during the pedestrianization of Arrecife’s seafront, and offices were relocated to C/ Caldera de Taburiente. It is planned that the large mirror-fronted building will now be used for a Museum of the Sea.
The Casa Cabrerón, in Valterra, dates from 1887 and was the site of the first hospital on the island. It later became an orphanage, a military barracks and a school and a private residence before falling into disuse.
