The Cabildo has announced the distribution of over €90 million of treasury remainder funds from the 2023 budget. The funding is expected to be approved at a General Meeting next week.
The main areas where the funds will be distributed are as follows:
Housing
€8 million for the purchase of 42 homes under construction in Yaiza and destined for social housing
€3 million for the purchase of two plots for social housing in Arrecife and one in San Bartolomé.
€2.2 million in grants and subsidies for those seeking homes “especially young residents of Lanzarote and La Graciosa.”
Social Welfare
€4 million for inclusion, the aged, dependents and addiction services
€2.6 million for grants and subsidies. .
€7.3 million to improve accessibility, distributed between the municipalities in relation to their population.
Agriculture
€6.1 to the island’s Water Consortium for an irrigation plan in Tinajo and Teguise.
€3.9 million in grants to farmers.
Other projects
€4.6 million to bury the electricity cables between Maciot and Las Casita de Femes, removing the need for pylons.
€5 million for a helicopter and an emergency tow-truck, plus associated maintenance costs. These will “further reduce the reaction time to emergencies.”
€4 million for early repayment of loans.
€2.3 million to renovate the Island Library in Arrecife.
