The Canarian education system has reported just five cases of bullying on Lanzarote in this academic year, while cases of bullying appear to have reduced significantly across the Canary Islands.
The figures have been announced to mark World Anti-Bullying Day (4th May), and “maintain the downward trend both in requests for assistance and confirmations of bullying,” according to education department head Poli Suárez.
Suárez credits the reduction to a new anti-bullying policy which includes “the creation of a co-ordinator for pupils’ welfare and protection in all public and subsidized centres in the Canary Islands.”
The co-ordinators job has existed since last year and involves detecting, preventing, and resolving cases of bullying, as well as campaigning and raising consciousness of the problem.
