Two British bathers, an 82-year-old man and an 80-year-old woman, were rescued yesterday on La Garita beach in Arrieta.
It is reported that the couple fell into the water while trying to bathe in a rocky area and were knocked over and submerged by strong waves.
Lifeguards from the Emergency and Rescue North service rapidly reached the pair and prevented them from drowning.
The strong waves rolled them over and submerged them in the sea, but the diligent action of the lifeguards, holding them by the arms, prevented them from drowning, according to the information provided by the Security and Emergencies Consortium.
