This Thursday, Oswaldo Betancort, president of the Chamber of Commerce, José Valle, and the CACT Director, Ángel Vázquez, met with the Mayor of New York and members of the town hall to talk about tourism on Lanzarote.
“This morning, the mayor met with the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and his delegation from the Canary Islands to talk about tourism, one of the strengths of this volcanic island,” the Twitter account in Spanish for New York City posted yesterday.
During his trip to the U.S., Betancort has been harshly criticised by the PSOE party – “While Lanzarote collapses, Oswaldo Betancort’s plans are to go to New York to look for more tourists,” stated socialist spokeswoman, Ariagona González.
“It is regrettable that the president of the Cabildo has exposed the objectives of his agenda in his trip to the United States and these pass to go to capture more tourist markets,” González added.
“Betancort is still determined to ignore the reality suffered by the citizens of Lanzarote, or at least that of the majority, in such issues as the impossibility for families to find properties for rent at an affordable price and what is worse: he is still determined to ignore the data that support that Lanzarote can no longer stand more”, González stressed.
“The people of Lanzarote are clear about the truth, they know that we are living a historical moment like the one we already lived decades ago and where it is necessary to become aware of the situation and stop the excessive growth that has already impoverished us socially, territorially and environmentally and that leads us to a more serious situation”, González added in closing.
