Get your costumes ready… Arrecife’s carnival parade, the first and biggest on the island, will take place tonight, the most intense, noisy and colourful experience in Lanzarote’s calendar.

This will be the third year running during which the parade will take its new route, departing from the Cruz Roja roundabout at 6 pm and proceeding past the football pitch, the bus station and the Open Mall before ending up at the Agramar complex in Puerto Naos.

The initial stretch of the route leading from Cruz Roja to the football pitch will have no drums, loud music or flashing lights, so that those with hypersensitivity can enjoy the spectacle. If you want the full, thunderous experience, choose a spot later on the route.

After the parade, the floats will continue to play music at Agramar until 2 am. There’ll also be open air concerts from 8pm onwards in Arrecife’s city centre: at the Plaza de las Palmas; the Avenida Vargas on the seafront, and the Plaza del Almacén on Calle Canalejas. These will all continue until 4 am.

Extra buses have been laid on between Puerto del Carmen and Costa Teguise until 4 am.  They will stop at the bus station and the interchange at Playa Reducto. The stop at Los Alonsos, near Open Mall, will be closed.

If you’re planning to join the party, make sure to plan your transport, keep any children close to you, and be careful with valuables.
