Arrecife’s cruise boom continues as the capital recorded over half a million cruise passengers in 2023.
Arrecife mayor, Yonathan de León Machín, and member of the board of the Las Palmas Port Authority, stated this week that these figures for 2023 reveal that the capital of Lanzarote has a great economic strength in the sectors linked to the port.
According to the official data from the Las Palmas Port Authority, the three ports (Arrecife, Puerto del Rosario and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria) received a total of 1,512,295 cruise passengers in 2023, of which Arrecife accounted for 33%.
PREPARING FOR CRUISE TOURISM
Last year, Arrecife Ayutnamiento launched a revitalisation plan to support the commercial and hospitality sector on the days of cruise ship arrivals, which sees thousands of passengers wander the streets of the capital.
In recent months, new businesses have opened in the commercial area of Arrecife who target those visiting the capital on a tourist cruise. Among these businesses are fashion brands, gourmet products, among others.
