Arrecife has presented the poster for it’s San Ginés festivities, which will run from 9th to 25th August.
The poster features a painting of four young bathers on the sea wall facing the Puente de Las Bolas and the Castillo de San Gabriel. The artist, Mariola Acosta, is a teacher at Arrecife’s Pancho Lasso art school.
At the presentation was Alejandro Hernández, the Arrecife-raised referee who has presided over several important matches in Spain’s Primera Liga and the Champion’s League. Hernández will give the official speech launching the fiestas.
Mariola Acosta described how the San Ginés fiestas were “those of the whole island” when she was a girl, and that it was customary for young people to present their girlfriends and boyfriends at the celebrations. She said her poster wanted to convey “a feeling of life and joy, the freshness and good vibes of summer, something simple and at the same time lovely – the same as Arrecife, a city looking out to sea.”
