The Mayor of Arrecife has said there is “no place for racism and violence in football” after a juvenile match in Arrecife was suspended for violent behaviour.
The match, between local team Maritima and visiting side Victoria, saw a fight involving players and fans after the visitors equalised in the 79th minute. During the row, the Victoria No 15 was accused of racist abuse towards a player for the home side.
It’s the second time a match has ended in violence recently, following the St Valentine’s Day fixture between Puerto del Carmen and Valterra, which also saw players and fans fighting.
