Arrecife Mayor, Yonathan de León, has ordered the local police force to reinforce its presence in areas of the capital known to be frequently used as points of sale of illegal drugs.
Last week, Arrecife Local Police carried out routine sweeps of vulnerable areas in the afternoons and evenings to combat the sale of illegal drugs.
Last year the force was equipped with unmarked vehicles which allow them to carry out more thorough surveillance work. Additionally, the officers on duty in the inspections wear plain clothes.
Arrecife Mayor, Yonathan de León, announced that this surveillance will continue this year, and reinforcements will be made where necessary in vulnerable areas. De León’s aim is to achieve safer, drug-free environments for young people, and to increase security in the capital.
