Yesterday, Arrecife laid its gigantic sardine to rest in an event that brought an end to the carnival celebrations in the capital.
Singing, dancing and drumming groups and the three winning floats from Monday’s procession paraded from the Gran Hotel to the Playa del Rocar. (just before Lanzarote Marina).
After them came the giant papier mâché sardine, accompanied by wailing widows and other mourners, all waving a final tearful goodbye before the sardine was cremated on a huge bonfire.
