At the celebrations in Arrecife this week, mayor, Yonathan de León, stated that “this celebration should strengthen all of us citizens, with the same exciting strength of our ancestors who saw the Arrecife port with a future, a future that is already present and the great and transforming changes in the whole city can be glimpsed”.

“I want to dedicate a few words to all the people of Arrecife and thank them for their trust during this almost first year as mayor of the city where I was born 40 years ago.  My commitment is with the neighbourhoods, with the whole city. I confirm that I will continue to strive, every day, to keep working hard so that Arrecife continues to move forward.”.

“Arrecife goes with the wind in stern, we sail with the winds in our favour, because for the first time, after many decades, the neighbours perceive and see that our city and capital, is on the right course.”.

“We have ahead of us years full of challenges, changes, modernisation, improvement of public services, which aim to make Arrecife the true third capital of the Canary Islands. So that we live in a better city for everyone, where to live, work, enjoy, dream and be happy, are reasons of identity of the new Arrecife that we are projecting together.”.

“We must, with the yearning of each and every one, be able to achieve, among all, that Arrecife is a better city. That is my commitment, and I am sure that of all those who were born here, or destiny and life, has brought them here to reside and live in our city. From the origins, Arrecife and all the Canary Islands has been a melting pot of cultures, islands twinned with people who feel this land as if it were their own. Because the celebration of Canary Day symbolises all that: sharing love and dedication to the land that welcomes us and in which we live and work,” he concluded.
