Arrecife launched its carnival poster for 2023 yesterday, and the winner of the competition to design it was 24-year-old Andrea Ruano, who is studying illustration at the Pancho Lasso art school in her home town, Arrecife.
The poster reflects the theme of this year’s carnival , which is Cuban singer Celia Cruz, the “Queen of Salsa”, who was famous for her mighty voice, her incredible dresses and her catchphrase “Azucar!” Cruz has a special link to Canarian carnival, as her performance at Tenerife’s carnival attracted 240,000 people – a world record.
Ruano was present at the launch, alongside Arrecife Mayor Astrid Pérez and Festivals Councillor Encarna Páez.
