An estimated 25,000 people flocked to Playa Reducto in Arrecife last night to see the Euros 24 final transmitted on a big screen.

The beach was a sea of red and yellow flags, and Lanzarote’s tallest building, the Gran Hotel, was lit up in the national side’s colours.

In the intense, hard-fought first half, Spain were successfully closed down by England and did not have a single shot on goal. But things changed immediately after the break, when a well-taken goal by Nico Williams changed the dynamic of the match.

Cole Palmer equalised in the 73rd minute with a superb shot, but Spain were clearly dominant and it was no surprise when Mikel Oyarzobal scored the winner four minutes before full time.

After the final whistle, fireworks burst above the capital and cars tooted their horns in victory, celebrating a historic achievement – Spain’s fourth European Championship title.
