Arrecife’s second annual Feria de Abril (April Fair) will take place this weekend in Arrecife.

The event is a tribute to the famous Feria de Abril in Seville, where people dress in traditional Andalusian costumes and flamenco dresses, ride on horseback to the fair and party in small marquees.

Arrecife’s Parque de José Ramírez Cerda will see several musical performances, including tributes to flamenco legends Niña Pastori, and Ketama flamenco dance shows and an equestrian display over three days on Friday 5th, Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th of April.

The Socialist Party have criticised Arrecife Mayor Yonathan de León for spending almost half a million Euros on the event, which they claim has “no connection with Lanzarote”.  They have also attacked the decision to invite the “neofascist, aggressive and rude” singer José Manuel Soto to perform at the event. Soto has had concerts cancelled after attacking Socialist voters on social media and praising the Franco dictatorship.
