Yurena Corujo, an assessor for Podemos in Lanzarote’s Cabildo, has resigned following the recent dismissal of Elena Solis as councillor for the Environment.
Corujo chose not to give reasons for her departure, saying that they would be “known to my colleagues in Podemos Lanzarote” and stressing that she did not want to prolong the conflict.
“Now more than ever it”s necessary that we have a politics based on good foundations, but above all that is done in the right way, leaving egosa, impulses and individualities out of the equation.”
Her resignation suggests a serious breach in the Podemos party, with a segment of the grass roots support of the party objecting to the decision of Podemos councillors Myriam Barros and Jorge Peñas to remove Solis from her post earlier this week.
