Lanzarote’s firefighters bid an emotional farewell to Luis Álvarez de León as he retires after 31 years of service.

The island’s firefighters, Cabildo president, and the head of the Security and Emergency Consortium, bid an emotional farewell during Luis Álvarez de León’s retirement ceremony.

Luis Álvarez has given 31 years of his life to the service and received a fitting farewell for his dedication and commitment.

As is tradition, the sounds of the, the sirens, water jets, and applause of the staff, for some minutes to honour his service.

The Cabildo president, María Dolores Corujo, stated “Our thanks to all the firefighters who dedicate their professional lives, often taking time away from their personal lives, for the common good. They are generous people as is the case of Luis Álvarez to whom we wish the best in the next chapter of his life”.

During the farewell, his colleagues highlighted “the examples of commitment he showed to the fire brigade and to the island, a colleague who has always been there for everything, in the easy and difficult moments.”.
