The Ayuntamiento of San Bartolomé has awarded a licence for the opening of an Aldi supermarket in Playa Honda.
It will be the second Aldi on the island after the opening of a branch in Arrecife less than a month ago.
The new branch will be on the Avenida Mamerto Cabrera, the road serving Playa Honda’s industrial zone, which runs parallel to the main LZ-2 road.
It will establish Playa Honda as one of the main shopping areas on the island, with a Mercadona and a large Hiperdino supermarket already present, as well as smaller food outlets and cash & carries.
No dates have yet been announced for the construction or opening of the supermarket.
Playa Blanca playing catch up
Playa Blanca residents have regularly called for more supermarkets in the municipality, with Playa Blanca only featuring HiperDino, Spar and the Overseas supermarket.
Last month, it was announced that LIDL would be coming to Playa Blanca by the end of the year and will be constructed in the resort’s industrial disctrict on an 11,000 square-metre plot with parking.
