ADEMAL has called the sentencing for a recent animal abuse case in Nazaret “unacceptable”.
On Facebook ADEMAL wrote, “On 5 April 2023, ADEMAL submitted a complaint describing the deplorable conditions of three dogs: Malnutrition, open wounds and confinement in unsanitary cages. The animals were living in a 25 square metre room full of excrement and urine.”
“ADEMAL tried to act as a prosecutor in the court proceedings, but the court did not even process its application.”
“On 27 May 2024, the Court No. 4 of Arrecife issued an “a la carte” sentence against the animal abuser J.M.C.P.: only four!!!! months fine and eight months disqualification for possession of animals. A punishment that ADEMAL believes is clearly inadequate given the seriousness of the case.”
“It is unacceptable that in such a serious and unfortunately frequent case of animal cruelty on Lanzarote, a judgement has been passed in such an irregular manner,” said Eloi Sarrió Santana, lawyer for ADEMAL”
In closing ADEMAL wrote, “Despite the obstacles, Birgit Wenning, President of ADEMAL, says: “Rain, snow or shine, ADEMAL will continue to work to ensure that the rights of animals are respected and protected at both administrative and judicial levels”.”
