March was an extraordinarily cool, wet month, according to statistics from AEMET.
The average temperature in March was 15.2 degrees Celsius, 0.8 degrees lower than the yearly average, making March the 23rd coolest month in 65 years.
An average of 47.2 mms of rain fell in March, the wettest month for years and one in which more rain fell than in the whole year of 2023.
The colder, wetter weather was a result of a series of Atlantic low-pressure zones which also brought storms and high winds to the Canaries. Storms Konrad, Laurence and Martinho arrived in March, while Nuria and today’s storm Olivier have continued the trend.
