For three decades, the Seaside Los Jameos has been a premier destination in the Canaries, earning a loyal following of Lanzarote visitors. Following its 30th-anniversary celebrations, the Matagorda hotel underwent a stunning refurbishment.

Stepping into the lobby of the Seaside Los Jameos, you are immediately met with an air of timeless class. Designed in the style of a traditional Canarian mansion courtyard, the hotel beautifully weaves local heritage with the modern legacy of artist César Manrique. The result is a space that feels completely contemporary, yet evokes a more sophisticated, elegant, and luxurious era of travel.

Last year, the hotel underwent a huge refurbishment to make improvements to its rooms, restaurants, activity areas, health & wellness facilities, and much more.

We toured the hotel, which is currently finalising the last steps to achieve a 5th star, and spoke with Executive Director Assistant, Kateryna.

The hotel looks fantastic, Kateryna! The new design has been described as stylish and deeply connected to Lanzarote. Where will guests see this most clearly?

Yes, we’re very happy with the work. We preserved the original style, created by two architects trained by César Manrique, and added a fresh, modern touch. This can be seen in our new à la carte restaurant, in the new children’s area, in the rooms, and throughout the hotel.

Returning guests will still find the hotel that they know and love, however, they will now have even more to experience.

Sustainability was an important part of the refurbishment, too.

Absolutely. We obtained the Travelife Gold award a year and a half ago, becoming one of the first ten hotels in the world to achieve it.

Since then, we have installed a geothermal system for room and pool climate control, a system to reduce food waste, electronic allergen signage, eco-friendly cleaning products, and a herb garden for our à la carte restaurant.

We now have three drinking water stations installed, one specifically for staff, promoting sustainability and reducing single-use plastic.

The new rooms look stunning. What has changed?

Our rooms are now more modern and cozier than ever. The rooms feature new furniture, curtains, textiles, mattresses, televisions, duvets, and the air conditioning system has been replaced with individual climate control.

Additionally, some feature walk-in showers instead of bathtubs, and all are equipped with minibars, upgraded electrical systems, and plug sockets specifically for UK guests.

There’s been some fabulous additions to the dining options. What’s new?

We have introduced our new stylish à la carte restaurant, Arroz y Fuego, where Spanish flavours take centre stage. In the restaurant you are surrounded by warm textures, soft lighting and contemporary design, you are invited to slow down, savour the moment and enjoy an atmosphere as memorable as the cuisine.

From beautifully crafted paellas to flavourful specialities prepared with the finest ingredients, our chefs bring the essence of Spain to your table.

The new restaurant is open to the public too, and we are delighted to welcome Lanzarote locals from Tuesday to Saturday, with prior reservation by contacting the hotel reception.

Finally, our new Milk Lab bar is the go-to spot by the pool for a sweet treat in the sunshine. Here we produce artisanal ice cream and and offer a wide variety of milkshakes and snacks.

And the buffet restaurant?

Our large buffet restaurant has been updated too. Guests can enjoy freshly baked bread, homemade pasta and pizza, burgers, tandoori dishes on occasion, and a new Japanese oven that cooks whole fresh fish to perfection. The buffet is now organized into colour coded “islands,” including meat, fish, vegetarian, vegan, and a kids’ section.

What about the new Live Cooking Stations?

The live, independent cooking stations have been updated with more variety. Our team cooks fresh dishes in front of guests, catering to their preferences and ensuring a personalised, interactive, and memorable experience.

Our vegetarian and vegan guests can enjoy these too, with an island dedicated to both diets.

While the adults enjoy the new restaurants and upgraded rooms, what can the little ones do?

The children’s area has been moved to its own section of the hotel and features new heated pools, slides and a splash pool for the very little ones. There’s also a new colourful playground; renovated Kids Club and our animation team offer a full program of creative activities for all ages.

And for the health-conscious visitor?

For guests and residents, you’ll find everything you need to pamper yourself in our spa & wellness centre. You can choose from relaxing aquatherapy, nurturing body wraps and facials, or spend some time in our sauna landscape.

Our guests can also enjoy a fully equipped gym with Technogym machines and free weights.

Lastly, our newly refurbished beauty salon offers a wide range of beauty treatments using high quality cosmetic products.

You must be very proud of the renovation.

Of course, we’re all delighted. I’d like to thank everyone involved in making it happen, especially our hotel Director Beate Sekula who worked tirelessly day and night to make it a reality. It wouldn’t have been possible without her.

Thanks for the tour, Kateryna, we wish you all the best for the future!

So, what does this new chapter feel like? It’s the taste of fresh fish from the Japanese oven, the scent of herbs from the garden garnishing your dish, and the serenity of a yoga class after a day in the sun. It’s the sound of children laughing in their dedicated paradise, and the quiet comfort of a perfectly climate-controlled room.

Seaside Los Jameos has woven its rich heritage with a vibrant, responsible, and deeply luxurious present. The result is not just a renewed hotel, but a profoundly enriched experience, waiting to be discovered.
