A record 7.66 million journeys were taken on Lanzarote’s interurban buses in 2024, a 15% increase on 2023.

More than 4.7 million of those journeys were made by locals using the Bono Residente Canario, which allows free travel to travellers who take more than 15 journeys in a quarter.  The Cabildo has recently pledged to continue the policy throughout 2025 despite the inability of the Spanish government to find enough support to renew the law in Congress last week.

The Bono Residente Canario is the main reason for the increase in public transport. Around 2.77 million journeys were also made on individually purchased tickets, many of them used by tourists. However, this total has not varied significantly since 2023.
