60% of Airbnbs in the province of Las Palmas advertise without licences, according to a survey commissioned by Hosteltur.
The survey is based on analysis of advertisements on accommodation platforms, and the number of properties that include a tourist licence number on their advertisement. The fact that a licence number is not announced does not necessarily mean that the property does not have one but “it is a metric that offers authorities an indication of the potential pool of unauthorised offers,” according to Mabrian, who carried out the study.
The results vary wildly throughout Spain, with more than 86% of properties in Madrid not showing licences, while fewer than 2% in Malaga and Seville are unlicenced.
Earlier this week the Spanish Minister for Social Rights ordered Airbnb to block 65,000 “illegal advertisements”, although none of these were in the Canaries.
