Spain’s Interior Ministry will recruit 51 National Police officers from summer this year to cover the shortfall on Lanzarote. The duties and postings of the new agents will be decided by the Police Station in Arrecife.
The posts are part of a larger round of recruitment covering the Canaries, but Lanzarote will be the island that benefits most, with the appointment of several new Constables, three Oficiales (Sergeant equivalent) and a Deputy Inspector.
Although unconfirmed, it is expected that several of the new agents will be delegated to border control duties at the airport, hopefully easing a situation which has seen long queues and delays at busy times at the airport.
