The Canarian Agency for the Protection of the Natural Environment (ACPMN) has announced the opening of a case against a company in Arrecife, who were found to be dumping rubble illegally, and have proposed a fine of 30,000 euros.

Last February it was discovered that a plot of land in Arrecife was being used as an illegal dumping ground for rubble. As a result of the company’s actions, the person in charge has received notice of the opening of a case for a serious environmental infringement.

The penalties for such infringement range between 2,000 and 100,000 euros and ACPMN have proposed a fine of 30,000 euros for the company in question. However, the sanctioning procedure offers the possibility of reducing the fine by 40% if the company acknowledges the charges.

Arrecife Ayuntamiento and its local police service have emphasised the importance of environmental awareness and stated, “We urge all companies and citizens to collaborate in the protection and conservation of our natural environment, and we encourage citizens to continue reporting such acts”.

“It is essential that everyone, from institutions to individuals, assume our responsibility in the preservation of the natural environment that we value so much. The collaboration and commitment of all are essential to avoid future infractions and ensure a sustainable future for our island”.
