The dam at Mala will be made safer for visitors and locals.
The dam was the largest engineering project on Lanzarote when it was constructed in the 1970s, but was never put into use because of the porous nature of the reservoir area. It has since become a popular area for walkers and hang gliders, but the metal fences have rusted and become extremely unstable.
The galleries in the lower part dam will also be renovated, with a budget of €169,000 put aside for the project.
