The director of the Canarian Health Service, Conrado Domínguez, has resigned after being named in a fraud case involving face masks.
The Caso Mascarillas (Mask Case) arose during the early days of the pandemic in 2020, when the Health Service decided to awarded a €4 million contract to purchase a million FFP3 face masks to a car sales company with no previous experience in the acquisition of health equipment. The masks that arrived had to be destroyed as they were not up to basic standards.
Domínguez announced that he was resigning in order to conduct his defence without affecting the Health Service.
