This week, members from the Lanzarote Cabildo attended Jet2’s 20th anniversary celebrations at the 2023 International Tourism Fair (Fitur).

Argentina win the World Cup

The Argentine population on Lanzarote took to the streets last night, proudly wearing their shirts and waving flags in celebration of their triumphant win over France on penalties.

Football frenzy!

Moroccan football fans celebrated their team's historical victory over Portugal yesterday, which makes them the first African side to reach the World Cup semi-finals. Happy singing, flag-waving and the usual driving around and tooting car horns carried on for several hours in Arrecife, where the majority of Lanzarote's Moroccan community live. Moroccans are the largest immigrant community on the island after the British.

Nuclear power in Morocco

Environmentalists have been alarmed by the news that Russia has agreed the construction of a nuclear power station with the Moroccan government. The facility, which will be used for “peaceful purposes” will be located at Sidi Boulbra, on the Moroccan coast 400 kilometres north east of the Canary Islands.
