Yaiza Ayuntamiento has carried out maintenance works on the seven kilometres of dirt road leading to Papagayo.
The works rectified the damage caused by thousands of vehicles, as well as the recent heavy rains, and involved soaking and compacting the existing track. The laws governing the Natural Monument of Los Ajaches do not permit the surfacing of roads with tarmac.
Yaiza Mayor Óscar Noda announced that the works had been carried out and called on the Cabildo to “assume its responsibility” in the upkeep of the area.
A legal report commissioned by the Ayuntamiento last year concluded that the Cabildo bore the responsibility for upkeep of dirt tracks, the campsite, signage, cleaning, and facilities.
