Yaiza Ayuntamiento have removed the remaining pylons in the village of Yaiza as part of their plan to remove structures that damage the appearance of the municipality.
Mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, called for the burial of power lines in the municipality last October during the opening ceremony of the new 123 kV interconnection between Fuerteventura and Lanzarote.
At the opening Noda stated, “If we advocate for the sustainability and the defence of the landscape as an essential value of Lanzarote, we must make a great effort to bury the power lines and remove the towers.”
Announced in December last year, the Lanzarote Cabildo approved a grant of 8 million euros to bury the power lines in the municipality of Yaiza.
The installation of over 50 pylons between Macher and Playa Blanca has consistently been opposed by Yaiza Ayuntamiento because of its negative visual impact.
Yaiza gets rid of pylons
This week, Yaiza Ayuntamiento announced that the project to remove pylons and bury the power lines has been completed in Yaiza, “thus fulfilling the municipal commitment to free the town from the visual impact of pylons.”
