At 94 years of age popular poet, Antonio Gutiérrez Reyes, continues to enjoy his craft. Yaiza Ayuntamiento paid tribute to him this Sunday in celebration of Día del Mayor.
Reyes was honoured by the Ayuntamiento with around eighty residents in attendance. Accompanied by his wife María, the poet received an award from Yaiza councillor, Águeda Cedrés.
Cedrés stated that “Antonio is a person very dear to the elderly community in Yaiza, and the emotion we all felt this Sunday paying tribute to him shows that his verses touch our souls.”
Mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, expressed his public congratulations to the poet born in Yaiza, stating that “Antonio expresses his love of Yaiza and its traditions in his work and the feelings that unite us as people.”.
