The assembly of what is set to be Lanzarote’s largest outdoor nativity scene is now underway in Yaiza, promising a spectacular festive attraction for residents and visitors alike.

This year’s nativity scene (or Belén in Spanish) in Yaiza will cover 400 square metres, making it larger than in previous years. The ambitious build is being handled by a dedicated team of local operators: Orlando Caraballo, Pancho Ortiz, and Aridane Cabrera.

According to Canarias7, this year’s display promises to be a unique celebration of the island itself. It will feature detailed replicas of iconic spaces and buildings, primarily from the south of Lanzarote, all integrated into the traditional nativity setting. A prominent water feature will also run through the scene, adding to its visual impact.

The official inauguration is planned for between the end of November and the beginning of December, timed to coincide with the switching-on of the festive lights across the south of the island.

Once open, the nativity scene will remain in place until well into January. Continuing a cherished tradition from previous years, any coins thrown into the display by visitors will be collected and donated to organisations dedicated to humanitarian aid work.
