Woman protests the lack of taxis in Arrecife

A woman was filmed sitting in the middle of the road on the Via Medular in Arrecife yesterday, in protest of the lack of taxis in the capital.

Dashcam footage from a taxi shows a driver pulling up to the protestor asking if they needed help. The woman responded “yes, let the people of Lanzarote protest about what is happening here because there is no public service”. She had been reportedly waiting for a taxi for over an hour.

The driver then agreed, stating that the taxis “go to the boats [incoming cruise ships]”.

The woman responded, “calls, calls and calls, and this is an emergency, this is my island and it’s always the same.”

Finally, the driver asked if the woman would like him to call the emergency services to which she agreed.
