Tinajo Ayuntamiento has approved the purchase of three electric buses for more than €1 million to shuttle tourists to sight-seeing areas and walking routes in and around Timanfaya.

The purchase follows a pilot project by the Cabildo which saw the closure of car parks at the Volcán del Cuervo and Caldera Blanca, with shuttle buses ferrying visitors to the sites from Mancha Blanca. Two larger buses and a smaller one will be provided by K.L. Buses S.L. for a total of €1,131,300.

Tinajo Mayor Jesús Machín said “This is the future of Tinajo, and we are working to make it real.” He also mentioned that the buses could be used for Timanfaya, once more raising the possibility that access to the Fire mountains might shift to a shuttle bus system, eliminating the long queues of tourist vehicles that are a tiresome fact of life in the national park.
