A new exhibition devoted to traditional Canarian underwear has opened as the Casa Amarilla in Arrecife.
Organised by the Malpaís de la Corona Folklore Group and commissioned by Ricardo Reguera, an expert in traditional Canarian dress, the exhibition focuses on an aspect of traditional clothing that has literally been hidden from view.
The exhibition features perfectly preserved examples and recreations of undergarments, with detailed information about their manufacture and use.
Reguera recently told MassCultura “Underclothes give us a lot of information, not just about the historical period, but also the intimate lives of the people who wore it.”
The exhibition is at the Casa Amarilla (the big yellow building at the foot of Arrecife’s main shopping street, Calle Real), and is open from 10am to 6pm on weekdays, 10 am -2pm on Saturdays. Entrance is free.
