There’s no stopping our football correspondent Ian Lane. Last month he was laid up in Arrecife’s general hospital after a knee operation, but despite severe pain and being doped up to the eyeballs, he still managed to send us his report. Get well fast, Ian!
With more than a third of the season behind us, Unión Deportiva Lanzarote sit in fourth spot trailing league leaders CD Atlético Paso by three points in the RFEF 3 (Fifth Tier).
The Rojillos (The Reds) home form has been almost immaculate with six wins and a draw in their seven matches played. On the road is where the problem lies, with only five points taken in six games.
Strangely enough, the only away win this season was 0-2 versus the league leaders but Lanzarote must improve their away form to claim that one and only automatic promotion position.
It is far from easy as only seven points separate the teams at the top from the mid-table, and there isn’t one side who hasn’t experienced a dip in form this season.
One of the main reasons for Lanzarote’s great home form is because of their support – which is the envy of all other clubs. The Rojillos are by far the best-supported club in the league, but the fans want and expect their team to produce better return than this on their travels.
The only thing Rojillo supporters can do is to continue to make Ciudad Deportiva in Arrecife a fortress.
It is simple to come and see a match as the stadium is next door to the central bus station in Arrecife and local bus number 3 runs every 30 minutes back and forth to Puerto Del Carmen and Costa Teguise. From Playa Blanca it is bus number 60 but it runs less frequently. If you are coming by car then parking nearby is easy as Arrecife is a ghost town on Sundays. There is no need to book tickets you simply turn up and pay on the door.
