U.D. Lanzarote are currently on fine form, buoyed by their cup performance and a winning streak. The new year promises plenty of excitement and thrills ahead.

At the end of October, U.D. Lanzarote narrowly lost their Copa del Rey match against the runaway leaders of Spain’s second division, Racing Santander. Nobody who saw that seven-goal thriller will forget it, and it certainly seems to have boosted the Arrecife team’s morale, as they followed it up by winning five out of the six following league games to take 15 out of 18 possible points.

At the time of going to print, Lanzarote are in fourth place of Group 12 of the Third Federation, just two points behind the joint league leaders San Fernando and Las Palmas Atlético.

However, San Fernando were the fly in Lanzarote’s ointment on December 1st, beating Lanzarote soundly by three goals to nil in front of their fans at their temporary home at Tías Stadium. The Gran Canarian team were defensively strong and fully deserved their win.

The result, which saw Lanzarote fail to keep a clean sheet for the first time in the four games since their cup tie seemed to knock the wind out of Lanzarote’s sails a little, but they bounced back the following week against Arucas.

The Rojillos went two-nil up in the first half with goals from Raúl and star striker Adrian Machín, before conceding twice on either side of the break. However, it was Javi Martín who snatched the winner for Lanzarote in the 75th minute.

Lanzarote start the New Year with trips to CD Marino and CD Buzanada in Tenerife, both mid-table teams who they’ll be hoping to snaffle a few points from. Then it’s back home to host Santa Úrsula before the short trip up the hill for the local derby against San Bartolomé on the 1st of February.

All Lanzarote´s home matches are being played at the stadium in Tías whilst renovation work takes place in Arrecife. Go onto the website below for details on how to get there, tickets, etc. The Rojillos expect to return to Ciudad Deportiva stadium sometime in the New Year
