UD Lanzarote has had a great start to the 2024/25 campaign, winning their opening two matches in the RFEF 3 (Royal Spanish Football Federation 5th tier). Ian Lane reports.
The Rojillos (The Reds) are playing at their temporary home in Tías whilst the Ciudad Deportiva stadium in Arrecife is being renovated. An almost-packed stadium in their 2-0 opening win on the 8th September produced a wonderful atmosphere. Details on how to get to a match are on the website and Facebook page below.
The following week, Lanzarote travelled to Tenerife to face their bogey side CD Santa Úrsula. On the Rojillos previous 10 visits they had failed to win and had only taken home three points in those 10 years.
Last season’s player of the year Adrían Machín and new striker Álvaro Iglesias gave Lanzarote an impressive 0-2 first half lead. The home side made it 1-2 in the 62nd minute but the Rojillos held on despite playing the final 20 minutes with 10 men after centre back Raúl received a red card.
After four years with the same designed shirt all of UD Lanzarote´s football teams will be playing in a new shirt this season. The shirts are available in the home colours of red and blue, the white and blue away strip, and the pink and white third shirt.

The shop is open Mon to Fri 10am to 1pm and also on Wednesdays 5-7pm.
