In the first eleven months of 2024, Lanzarote registered over three million annual tourists for the first time in its history.
Although the island has broken the 3 million limit before, in years such as 2023, 2019 and 2018, it has never done so before the final month of the year. When the December figures are released, it is almost certain that Lanzarote will mark an all-time record for arrivals in 2024.
Every month of 2024 saw an increase on the year previously, with the exception of July. The busiest month was March, with the Easter holidays bringing 322,453 visitors to the island. The carnival month of February saw the second-highest total of arrivals, with 303,640. November, surprisingly, saw the third-highest number of arrivals, with 299,502.
The least popular months were May with 245,917 visitors: June with 251,568 and September with 254,352.
In terms of nationality, the British accounted for more than half of all tourists with 1,564,947 visitors. The second-highest market is Ireland, with 332,560. Without taking repeat visits into account, this means that one in 16 Irish citizens came to Lanzarote last year, easily making it Lanzarote’s most faithful market.
