According to the Spain’s Meteorological Agency, Tías recorded a scorching 42.8°C on August 10th, the second-highest temperature in the Canary Islands in August.

The island found itself at the start of a heatwave on August 5th. Meteorologists attributed the sweltering conditions to a perfect storm of weather patterns: the Atlantic anticyclone shifted west, allowing a warm African air mass to envelop, bringing with it high-altitude haze and very hight temperatures. The conditions prompted AEMET to issue red and orange temperature warnings for Lanzarote.

The peak of this heatwave was on August 10th, when the island’s average temperature registered 6.2 degrees above normal, hitting 29.2°C. The data shows that both Tías and Tinajo repeatedly surpassed the 40°C mark on August 9th and 10th.

The heat continued into the nights too. The agency reported tropical nights, with minimum temperatures failing to drop below 26 degrees.

The statistics for the entire month further illustrate the sustained warmth. Every municipality in Lanzarote averaged above 22°C for August, with some areas seeing average temperatures exceed 24°C and even 26°C. The most significant deviations from the norm were felt in the north, particularly in Haría, La Graciosa, the Chinijo Archipelago, and parts of Tías.
