An award was presented to Wenceslao Gil Tejera, a veteran waiter who has spent 46 years serving at the Hotel Fariones. Restaurant owner Miguel Santos Ortiz was also recognised for his dedication to good food and wine, with a focus on local products.
Modesta Marrero García, one of the most respected members of the fishing community in Puerto del Carmen, received a prize, along with Francisco Rodríguez Rodríguez, the oldest skipper of the Cofradia de Pescadores.
Puerto del Carmen’s secondary school was awarded for its ZEConsciente project, an environmental initiative linked to World Oceans Day. Finally, the oceanographer Rogelio Herrera Pérez, who has worked on protecting fragile sites such as Playa Chica, received an award.
Tías Mayor José Juan Cruz said, “These people have been awarded not only for their work and professionalism, but also for the affection they have inspired in Tías and beyond.”
