The Cabildo yesterday presented three new hybrid buses that will reinforce Lanzarote’s public transport system. The buses have cost €1.4 million, with funding provided by the EU’s Next Generation plan.

The new buses will operate in Playa Blanca and Tías, will be accessible for disabled people and will feature an alcohol meter that drivers must clear before setting off. They will also allow passengers to pay by credit card and renew bus passes.

Transport councillor Domingo Cejas also announced that the No 34 service in Tías and the No 7 service from Arrecife to Maguéz would see more frequent routes added.

Cejas also said, “It is difficult to be more ambitious about adding more services owing to the shortage of bus drivers.”
