Three disabled people enjoyed the guided walking route of Tremesana yesterday, the first time that visitors with limited mobility have enjoyed this tour of one of the treasures of Timanfaya National Park.

The initiative follows the visit of two disabled residents to the Cueva de los Verdes last week, and once again adapted Joëlette wheelchairs were used, with volunteers from the Cruz Roja, the Cabildo, and the National Park.

Naiara Arteaga of Yaiza, who was born with without arms and one leg, said “I’ve always wanted to do something like this, but I didn’t think it was possible until I learned about the Joëlette and saw that yes, it can be done.”

Pascual Gil, director of the Timanfaya National Park, said “This is the first time we’ve done this route with three people who had never been able to access a place like this. Just for today, it’s been worth a whole year of work.”

The Tremesana route is one of the very few walking routes open to the public within the Timanfaya National Park.
